“I spent years trying to be perfect for everyone around me…”

There was a time when I gave my energy to everyone around me but forgot to save even a little for myself.

I kept saying yes when I wanted to say no.

I kept showing up for others while silently feeling exhausted inside.

And somewhere between responsibilities, expectations, and daily routines, I stopped listening to myself.

One evening, after another long day, I sat quietly with my coffee, my favorite book beside me, and complete silence around me. For the first time in a long time, I asked myself a simple question:

“When was the last time I truly felt happy?”

I did not have an answer immediately.

That moment changed something in me.

I slowly started understanding that self-love is not about being selfish. It is about caring for yourself the same way you care for people you love.

So I began with very small changes.

I stopped forcing conversations that drained me.

I started taking small breaks without guilt.

I allowed myself to rest.

I spent more time doing things that made me feel calm — reading, writing, sitting quietly, enjoying simple moments.

And honestly, healing did not happen overnight.

Some days were productive.

Some days were emotional.

Some days I still doubted myself.

But slowly, I started feeling lighter.

I realized that happiness does not always come from big achievements. Sometimes it comes from peaceful mornings, warm coffee, good books, deep breaths, and finally feeling comfortable with your own company.

Self-love, for me, started with choosing myself without feeling guilty about it.

And if you are reading this while feeling tired, lost, or emotionally overwhelmed, maybe this is your reminder too:

You deserve the same love, kindness, and patience that you give to everyone else.

Healing slowly is still healing.

What does self-love mean to you?
